George Harvey Bone is a composer in early 20th century London, who is under stress because he is writing a piano concerto. Due to this stress, he gets black outs when ever he hears dissonances. Asking help from a doctor ...。满清末年，国祚不久，时局动荡。1898年，光绪皇帝在康有为的建议下，决定效仿西方君主立宪制，推行戊戌变法。新政如火如荼，梁启超、谭嗣同相继得到光绪的重用。然而在全新风气吹起之际，变法不可避免遭到以慈禧太后为首的顽固保守势力的抵抗。上层波谲云诡，暗潮涌动。民间反清灭洋的势力也有所抬头。在老北京一处镖局，大刀王五凭借一身精湛武艺和爱国情怀引来八方同好聚集到他的门前。却也有苟风涛这样的武林败类投靠清廷，专门干些吃里扒外的恶事。未过多久，后党势力疯狂反扑，慈禧发动宫廷政变，先下手为强废掉光绪，围捕新党。康有为、梁启超闻风逃离，而谭嗣同等维新志士拒不离开。王五与幼年朋友谭嗣同密谋救出光绪，谁知计划最终失败……。
