本片故事开始时，凯正在码头迎接由美国调来的新护士李雅丝妮。李生得艳丽非常，当凯陪同她返回宿舍的时候，路上的兵士都惊为天人，纷纷向她注视和呼啸，她却不苟言笑。她对凯说她加入红十字会是因为想找寻她最近阵亡的丈夫的坟墓，因爱夫心切，对爱情已不感兴趣。第二天，凯带她到码头迎接白拉克中尉带领到来的伤兵。白是一个美印混血儿，不只个性坚强，而且纪律极严。他认为看护对兵士有害无利，因为她们的柔言蜜语会破坏兵士的作战精神。李执行看护伤兵的工作，始初极感不惯，后来才好一些。凯介绍她认识一个名唤爱迪的士兵。爱迪一见她便爱慕万分。她也把他当作自己的弟弟一样。凯乘休假之暇，带同李到一个法国女友的别墅去作海浴。在那里，她们遇见了白拉克。白用望远镜看见李穿着浴衣在海滩游泳，不禁色授魂予。凯问他曾否跟李的丈夫认识，他因想与李结交，便答说她丈夫生前是他的好友，和向她表示亲热。但她因他...。The Ood have given a warning to The Doctor.
