The film has little dialogue and relies on a remarkable series of contrasts for effect: a sultry night of deep, often painful depictions of passion visualized in a stark and grainy manner against the backdrop of a spiritless, bland ...。故事发生在五十年代的匈牙利，阿朗（Tamás Mészáros 饰）成长在一个并不和睦的家庭之中，9岁那年，阿朗的父母决定离婚，他们谁也不愿意抚养年幼的孩子，于是将他送到了孤儿院。也就是这个时候，苏联入侵了阿朗的祖国，虽然身处孤儿院这个闭塞的环境之中，但是阿朗还是敏锐的感觉到了外界气氛诡谲的变幻。在孤儿院中，阿朗的日子并不好过，这是一个上有铁腕统治，下有弱肉强食的小社会，孤儿院的院长是一个虐待狂，总是对孩子们动辄打骂。不过，在这里，阿朗也交上了好朋友，那就是被作为异见分子而下放到这里教书的老师。。
