叶青是华国农学专家，她的丈夫江硕家突发蝗灾，庄稼受灾严重，江硕和村里的乡亲们请叶青回去救灾。叶青救治过程中药方屡屡出现问题，使得庄稼被铺天盖地的蝗虫啃食。暴怒的村民将叶青囚禁起来虐杀而死。。大陆名导演谢晋之子谢衍编导的处女作，全片在大陆实地拍摄。归亚蕾与香港的顾美华分饰两母女，前者更夺得捷克罗威发利国际电影节最佳女主角奖。影片藉一坛女儿红酒，带出十里香洒坊一家三代女性的遭遇，是典型的以小人物一生反映时代面貌的文艺片。剧情描述花雕与酒坊的年轻画工郑阿藕珠胎暗结，老父大怒，赶走阿藕，女儿秋妹对乃母的行径十分不满，故意赌气嫁给小伙计陈宝康，好脱离母亲。此举令花雕很内疚，母女俩在文革期间还是吃了苦头。不料秋妹生下女儿陈飞，仍是母女不和，幸好大陆已经改革开放，花雕帮助陈飞开办女儿红酒家，失踪多年的郑阿藕也回来得以团圆了。。A documentary potted history of WW2, the novelty here is that most of the film has been "colorized".
