本片以纪实风格再现了1938年到1945年抗日联军第六军被服厂女兵、伤兵医院伤兵组成的留守团在主力部队西征后坚持在老游击区牵制敌人主力，于重重围剿中突围，进入苏联整训，整编为抗联第88教导旅打回东北的真实故事。影片透过12岁女战士李童的视角，塑造了耿团长、裴大姐、白连长、金玉希、李亦奇等一批普通抗联男女战士在突围中拼死互相保护，牺牲、被俘、最终生还的残酷历程。本片改编自最后一个离世的抗联女战士李敏撰写的回忆录。这是第一次用电影方式讲述了抗联后期从突围到整编为教导旅再到打回东北的全过程。。Lesbians didn't always get to see themselves on screen.
